As Jay’s post on the 8th attested, the Muskegon River is running high and off color.  My youngest son Ryan and his ex-Marine bud Ken joined me for a day of steelhead fishing on the MO.  Fishing was challenging due the high flow and dark water, but we managed to get it done on sparkle stone flies.  Our trout are looking very healthy, and the steelhead are present in good numbers with the spring run just now getting under way.  With significant snow pack still present in the Higgens Lake area, the source of the MO, and warm temps forecast, we’re crossing our fingers and hoping that the runoff somehow can be gradual so we can get our flow down to more manageable levels.  Otherwise, the stage is set for some excellent steelhead and trout fishing.
