The 2018 Muskegon River fly fishing for spring steelhead run is up and running! Good numbers of winter run fish with a sprinkling of fresh run springers are making for some very enjoyable fly fishing for spring steelhead. Longtime customer and friend, Paul, worked out the winter kinks in grand style, hooking multiple steelhead and bringing some to hand. His smile tells the story of the day—action throughout, resulting in a happy Paul and happy yours truly.
We’re going to need to watch river flows since we’re below historical averages, and the river is clearing big time. Some rain would be just the ticket to raise the river and bring the first big push of bright spring fish in. That said, the fishing right now is very good so it looks like our highest hopes for a special season of spring steelhead fishing might just be realized.
