Transitions

As one western Michigan fly fishing season wanes, another seizes center stage. So it was as Darryl and Pete joined me for a lower Muskegon River bass float earlier this week—a trip that took us mile after delightful mile down the river as the guys banged the cover with streamers and poppers. Top it off with a RiverQuest grilled steak lunch (or Atlantic salmon, chicken, or pork loin), and one has the makings of a most enjoyable day, even though the bass were less cooperative that we would have liked.

Today, though, it was Chinookie-on-the Fly as Ken and Ryan bent the 10 weights time after time all day long. So much for tranquility; explosive action replete with water clearing leaps and Kings splashing us wet upon release marked the day. Both satisfying days; both fly fishing; even though each couldn’t have been more unlike the other. We’re into big fish season now; here’s hoping you can get out and enjoy it.
