First Time for Everything

Dad Don and son Tony spent the day chasing Chinook salmon with the fly rods today.  After a big evening in the Muskegon River Lodge with four other related dads and sons, the guys were eager to have at some Michigan salmon fly fishing.  No salmon in the boat, I’m afraid, but the hookups came throughout the day both on deep nymphing rigs and indicator sets on the 11’3″ switch rods. I was really proud of how well the guys learned to cast both since the casting methods are 180 degrees opposite one another.  All in all a most enjoyable day with two great guys.

Oh, and lest I forget to mention, the Muskegon River today was gorgeous with fall colors just beginning to pop. Get out and live Michigan’s great outdoors; it’s a special time of year.

Here’s one of the sons, in this case, Chris, closing the deal as proud Dad Tony lends a hand and Captain Don Graham does the honors.
