Sunny days call for a change in tactics when targeting pre-spawn smallmouth. This is the time of year to shine. The numbers of fish brought to net are lower but the sizes are up. Tom had a great day on the river, with one bass taping in at 19.5 inches and another at 20 7/8, just shy of Master Angler with RiverQuest Guide and Owner Tom Werkman. This time of year it’s literally a game of inches to Master Angler status.
River conditions are perfect for smallmouth right now. Temps are in the upper 50’s to low 60’s on some of the other rivers we fish for them.
