Small windows – Winter Trout Fly Fishing

It hasn’t been the most hospitable week on the Muskegon River as far as winter trout fly fishing goes. Michigan’s Winter had tightened its grips on the Croton Dam and Newaygo area recently.  Cold winds and daily snow showers became the norm. Only a few small windows of opportunity presented a chance to wet a line and perhaps find a nice winter trout fly fishing. RiverQuest guide, Jay Allen, saw a small window and decided to utilize it.  He had been wanting to check in on our resident trout.  This seemed as good a time as any!

Muskegon River trout are truly blessed with a seemingly endless supply of scuds, nymphs, and other small minutiae. The difficulty can sometimes be in finding hungry trout who will bite!

After venturing out on the Muskegon River today though, Jay was happy to report our rainbow winter trout are doing just fine and are looking just as beautiful as ever!
