Partial Redemption

Peter's Brown MS

First, an especially prized trout: Peter’s 22 inch resident brown trout, which slammed his steelhead orange nuke egg.  Peter’s largest brown ever, this fish is one to be remembered. Congrats, Peter!

Now the rest of the story…

When a fly fishing guide’s knot fails on customer’s steelhead—in this case, the first one for Peter’s son, Arioch—the guide feels simply horrible. And so it was with me this morning.  I totally biffed on a knot that would prove the undoing of a double digit steelhead.  Ugh! Arioch was gracious to the max about it, though, saying, “No problem; we’ll get another one.”  And, indeed, he did shortly thereafter. Here’s the hen he brought to the net:

But he wasn’t done. Let’s meet another of his Muskegon River fall steelhead.

Peter's Son's Second Steelhead MS

What a day for all concerned and partial redemption for yours truly.  Here I am releasing one of Arioch’s steelhead.
