The 2017 Muskegon River steelhead run is winding down, but fishable numbers continue to course the river—some of which are bright, recent arrivals.  Tom poses an experienced buck, but two of the steelhead that he and Dave hooked were silver rockets that put both of the guys well into their backing before breaking off. Bright skies and high, clouded river flows made for challenging conditions, but Tom and Dave, current and past superintendents of schools with whom I had the privilege of working, pressed on and were rewarded—rods bent over, fly line melting off reels, and steelhead crashing the surface. Exciting action, stimulating conversation, and a ton of laughs marked the day—even as it does every time we get together on the river. Thanks, guys, for a terrific, most enjoyable time!
