Grandfather, Grandson, and Smallmouth

Today, RiverQuest guide, Captain Don Graham, hosted Phillip and his grandfather Dan for some top water, smallmouth bass fly rodding action. And action, indeed, they had! Phillip, who had recently bought a fly rod outfit, boated his first smallmouth taken with a fly rod, and the pic below attests to his excitement about it. Grandfather Dan meanwhile brought some buster smallmouth to hand, also taken with poppers on top. In short, it was a terrific day of fly fishing and more important, surely a long lasting memory for both guys and Don.

Smallmouth bass fly rodding continues excellent on the Muskegon River, and RiverQuest guides love introducing people to our sport by teaching casting, imparting action to the flies and poppers, and landing a gamefish that outfights most every freshwater fish of  similar size. Here’s to Phillip and Dan for showing us all how great a time a day on the river can be chasing smallmouth bass with the fly rod.
