“Exceptional!”

We RiverQuest guides continue impressed with the quality and number of steelhead in the Muskegon River for this stage of the spring run. Today, Captain Don Graham and I did what we do when we aren’t hosting customers—fly fish together—and the day proved exceptional.  From the earliest moments when we began fishing to the end of a planned short day, we hooked, netted, and released steelhead.  Once again, the mix was about 50:50, winter to spring fish.

The Muskegon is clearing, and steelhead continue to hold in pools and glides. Traffic was nonexistent, which—with the bluebird skies and spring sun to kill the morning’s freezing temps and with steelhead jumping all over our offerings—made for one of those “We’ll remember this one!” kind of days.

Whether you’ve never fished the Muskegon for steelhead or you’re a regular, our advice is, “Find some time to hit the MO this spring!” This run is looking very, very good so far.
