Winter Steelhead

No storm let down?

I’m honestly not disappointed that I didn’t have to shovel snow out of my boat all day today one bit. The forecasted snow storm shifted East and left us with several glimpses at the sun throughout the day. It was cold, but our winter steelhead...

Not exactly, but happy

Tranquil weather has not been the theme lately, at least for any length of time. Yesterday was truly a rare day with decent temperatures and calm winds. Together this made for a pretty enjoyable day on the river. The river dropped pretty significantly yesterday. The day...

Lets say winter now

I’ve been reluctant to start using the word “winter” in my posts mostly cause I really haven’t been ready, but I think it’s time. Melting snow has dipped the river temperatures consistently below 38 degrees lately. Now that the flow is a little more reasonable...

Birthday Present

Thankfully the steelhead didn’t seem to mind the chilly temperatures and it wasn’t long before Teresa posed her first Muskegon River steelhead. Teresa’s husband had his chances too, but he readily admits Teresa always gets the photo. Congrats–it was fun for sure!

35 degree reality

Last day of January and possibly the last above average temperature we see in the next week or so was reason enough to swing flies this morning on the Muskegon River. Water temperatures have dropped to a more normal winter reading of around 35 degrees....

Another Great Day

Winter fly fishing for steelhead on the Muskegon River continues very good as the hen steelhead Gary poses here attests. Fishing with RiverQuest guide Captain Don Graham, Gary enjoyed a great day with multiple hookups and fish landed. The river flow was up following the...
