Away from Chicago – Summer Smallmouth Fly Fishing on the Muskegon River

Right out of the gate I knew I would like Ben. “How many do you think we’ll catch today” as we headed down the stairs from the Muskegon River Lodge towards the river. “I know, I know, I’ll be happy with only one…” he declared.

This was Ben’s first river fly fishing trip and he was no doubt excited for the opportunity to catch his fish river bass. Certainly it took time for him to develop his cast, but thankfully his tenacity pushed him through the rough spots and he was rewarded with two very nice river smallmouth and several smaller bass too! Not too bad if I say so myself! He even let his dad catch a few too! Tomorrow is a new day…can’t wait to here what he has to say in the morning.
