“Summer time, and the livin’ is easy….”

Really great to get back on the MO with Captain Don— this time for some smallie fishing.  Absolutely gorgeous day with perfect water and temperature conditions rendered the float an absolute delight. The bass cooperated all day—both on top and underneath.  No giants, but scrappy, aggressive smallies that bent the 6 and 8 weights aplenty.  Black poppers on top and a variety of streamers—crayfish colored and snow white—turned the trick.

Even bettter, we had the river to ourselves—only three sets of kayakers/tubers and one boat with guys tossing spinners momentarily broke the silence.  Otherwise, it was Don and I alone with the herons, geese, ducks, muskrats, turtles, Baltimore orioles, cedar waxwings, a red-tailed hawk, sandhill cranes, and kingfishers galore.  In short, as Don observed, “It’s pretty tough to beat silently drifting down the river hooking smallie after smallie.”  Indeed.

Summer is here, and today spelled RELAXATION to the max.
