Gene Dewitt and his daughter Julie Roby joined me yesterday for a great day of Manistee River salmon fishing. Both Gene and Julie had plenty of action all day long. Salmon action is nearing peak on the Manistee with the next two weeks being top notch.

Captain Don Graham did a scouting trip for us while we wereon Manistee on the Muskegon, and to say it was a disappointment would probably be too kind! Don went from Henning Park to Pine St. to see only a handful of fish with a higher population guides. We will get a salmon run on the Muskegon but we desperately need rain. Water temperatures remain in the mid-sixties with no real cool down until next week. Don did walk (yes I said walk) his jet boat through a few places just to be safe. If you are planning to float the river in the near future bring some beer and relax; if you want to run your jet boat make sure your insurance premiums are paid to date!

Living in Michigan we are very fortunate to have lots of options for fishing just a few miles down the road. With fishing on the Muskegon very very slow a short drive North puts you in the height of the salmon run. We are lucky to have options! The Muskegon will improve with cool temps and rain.

Tight lines,

Steve
