Bill lettinga, Charlie Booth, and father-son combo Bob and Aidan Brady joined Dave and I for a day of salmon fishing on the Manistee River. Traffic on the water was very light today as people have spread out throughout the entire river system. Salmon numbers are very good in specific locations and thin in others. The over-all size and quality of the 08′ fish is quite impressive when compared to 07′. We landed one salmon today that tipped 20lbs on the boga; last year we saw most fish in the 12-13lbs class. This years fish are pretty close to the 15-16lbs average. Steelhead candy, antron stones, cross-dresser hexes, and green caddis provided most of the action. Streamer fishing this morning provided us with more chases than I have had in a week. Unfortunately, the takes fell short.

Hurricane Ike is barreling towards Texas as I am sure you are seeing and hearing on the news; rains from this storm are forecast-ed to hit Michigan over this weekend and threaten to bring more rain than some areas need- keep your fingers crossed that we keep the rain totals manageable.

Tight lines,
