I’m privileged to guide with four great guys who selflessly share their knowledge, fly tying expertise, and success with me and one another. Today, RiverQuest ran a five boat trip and, as one of the guides, I gave it my best shot with my two out-of-staters, Chad and Seth, neither of whom had fished for steelhead before. Despite their quickly learning the cast, line management, and the like, they didn’t have a hit for some three hours. On the way up river, however, we came upon RiverQuest guide Captain Don Graham who, upon learning of our lack of success, urged us to fish the location he and his customers had been fishing with stellar success. No pride, here; I jumped at the chance, thanked him, and within a very short time, Chad was into his first steelhead, which you’ll see him bear hugging in the picture below. Ed, Don’s guy, poses his first steelhead as well. In short, it proved a super day for all concerned.
All of which speaks to the power of team: when one struggles, the other picks him up. That’s what Don surely did for my guys and me today, and man, were we grateful! Thanks a ton, Don!
