Finally, finally, today my best fishing buddy, Don Graham, and I were able to spend some time on the Muskegon River fly fishing for steelhead. And what a special time it was to catch up after a busy fall guiding only to soak up the beauty and bounty of the MO on a gorgeous late November sun-drenched day. To be sure, we both hooked and fought steelhead—only to break them off before hoisting them aboard, but no matter; we’ve both brought a few to hand over the years. Keeping us busy, though, throughout the day were our resident rainbow trout, a couple of which are pictured here. Fat and sassy, they eagerly took our flies, a promising portent of our winter trout fishery to come. Wonderful it was to simply kick back, make a few casts, talk, eat, and cast some more and simply let the river come to us. No hurries, no demands; just fly fishing with a great friend.
