More Than a Fishing Trip!

When three former colleagues and great friends get together on the river, it’s sure to be more than a fishing trip!  And that it was for Dave, my former boss, and Tom, whom I supervised for years, who then took my position as Assistant Superintendent of the Jenison Public Schools when I retired. A couple of years later, Tom became the Superintendent, a position he currently holds with great distinction.  Religion, faith, politics, “Remember whens?”, and “What’s the latest?” triggered laughs and spirited discussion all day long.  The guys even managed to put  chinook salmon in the boat, which, given the paucity of fish this year due to a 75 percent decline in the chinook salmon population in Lake Michigan compared with 2012, was no small feat.  Here, Dave joins Tom with one the kings Tom brought to the net. The Muskegon River holds salmon, but they are fewer in number and well distributed. Patience and thanks for the hookups one receives with this year’s run are the order of the day.
