Making Memories

Three generations in the boat today: Dick, the grandpa; Matt, the dad, and Eliot, the 12 year old son and grandson—each learning to fly cast for the first time and boating some willing smallmouth bass that rewarded lessons learned.  Though intermittent drizzle marked the morning, the guys powered through it, getting their casting down and prepping for the action of the afternoon.  When the sun peeked out and popped the temp up pretty dramatically, the bass started feeding, as evidenced by their busting prey on the surface of the river.  So, we packed away the sinktips and streamers and went up top.  Eliot nailed the first with Matt soon getting some fishy love.  Missed strikes here and there brought laughs all ’round when, all too soon, it was time to pull lines.  Grandpa was the perfect patriarch, insisting that after he fished for a while, that father and son work the rods for the rest of the day.  All in all, a terrific time with guys whom, I dare say, are converts to the delights of fly fishing.
