Even though, Olin from Fort Wayne, Indiana kept checking his phone to see how his Hoosiers were faring versus Michigan State on the gridiron and even though the Spartans prevailed, Olin and his son Olin Jr. were locked in to a new experience: fly fishing the Muskegon River for steelhead and Chinook salmon.  Both guys were quick studies and connected with salmon after salmon, one of which, when it broke OJ’s leader with a crashing leap, caused the fly line to shoot back at OJ, leaving a nasty welt on his right shoulder.  Wow! None of us saw that one coming!

On the guys’ second day with me, love came down, in this case in the form of Olin Jr.’s double digit buck steelhead.  Awesome fish that Olin Jr. worked so very well.  Just a great time, even for IU grad Olin whose MSU wounds were assuaged by tight lines and sore muscles. As for OJ, his Indiana tournament bass fishing avocation may have just taken a new twist.  Next stop:  spring steelhead on the Muskegon River.
