Unpredictable

The common theme this time of year on the Mo’ is “dime bright hens & double striped bucks,” however it never ceases to amaze me when mother nature doesn’t follow the same curve. Pictured is Peter holding a hefty hen steelhead sporting her full winter colors. It goes to show that fish will spawn when they’re ready–even if they’ve hung out in the system for quite a while. This particular hen was still firm with no signs of being ready to spawn.

The river has begun to retreat again after a temporary rise middle of the week. Pre-spawn, spawn, and post spawn drop-backs are throughout the river system. Conditions are finally looking favorable for the two-handed game–I’m certainly looking forward to having the long rods back in the boats after a couple weeks without.
