Pancakes Anyone?

Our RiverQuest customers treat us guides very well and regularly thank us with gratuities at day’s end for which we are most grateful. Certainly, today was no exception with host Jeff S generously tipping me and his guest Jeff bestowing a unique thanks.  An ex-Marine, Jeff lives in Mancelona and plants food plots for Jeff S’s northern Michigan hunt club as well as taps maple trees on his property and markets the maple syrup he makes as “Mancelona Magic.”

So, here’s the connection: the fish gods smiled, and we had a terrific day of fly fishing for steelhead.  A fly fisherman, who chases brown trout on the upper Manistee during the Hex hatch, Jeff had never fly rodded steelhead so today was his introduction.  He was totally enthralled by it  and at days’ end, presented me with a quart of his “Mancelona Magic” maple syrup as an expression of his thanks for the day.  Totally unexpected and a gift which was a most thoughtful gesture, Jeff’s kindness will long be remembered—and savored, I’m sure, by me and all of us in the Kuieck clan as we pour some “Magic” over hotcakes.

Jeff S poses a hen, Jeff a buck, and I hold a hen Jeff brought to hand.

Thanks guys for it all. Truly, this was a day I will long remember.
