As soon as my guys settled into the boat this morning, Jeff said, “Tom, we’re totally laid back today. Sure, we would like to hook some steelhead, but if we don’t, no problem; it’s a beautiful day, and we just want to soak it in!” (My paraphrase).
And so it was; for what what must have been nearly an hour, we nary cast a line despite my having anchored in a choice spot, only to talk and talk some more about the beauty of the river, our faith in God, contemporary worship, millennials, and more. It was an amazingly stimulating and insightful conversation that continued through much of the day.
But, of course, the guys did get around to fishing, and Dwight took top honors with this gorgeous fresh run female steelhead that with multiple water clearing leaps and a smoking hot run took Dwight way, way into his fly line backing. In short, spectacular!
Thanks guys for a most memorable day! I learned a ton and will treasure this day we spent together on the Muskegon River.
