All New

Introducing my nephew-in-law, Attila, and his good friend Soren to fall on the Muskegon River was my joy today.  The fall Chinook salmon run continues, though ebbing, and for the guys, witnessing the entire spectacle was all new: the process of spawning with the males battling for dominance and mating rights, the hens turning gravel for that perfect spawning spot, the life cycle of the salmon, and so on.  Attila and Soren were fascinated by it all, as well as the beauty of the Muskegon River itself. Soren brought a 20 lb fresh run buck to the net, capping a wonderful day with these two great guys. Steelhead? None today, despite our targeting them for the first hour or so.  Didn’t matter for the guys, though; seeing what we’ve come almost to take for granted was a revelation to them.  All in all, a great day with two fine men who love the out-of -doors and now pursuing salmon and steelhead with the fly rod.
