End of the Rainbow

There it was as Chuck, Mike, and I motored up the Muskegon River this morning: a double rainbow—a portent, we hoped, of rich things to come. And come they did. No pot of gold but plenty of silver that bent fly rods all day long.  Retired school principal and fly fisherman Chuck hosted his good friend Mike to introduce him to fly fishing.  I’ve had my share of quick studies as a guide, but Mike was right up there with the best of them as he cast beautifully and managed his drifts like a pro. Chuck got his licks in, too, but make no mistake, today was all about Mike as Chuck coached and cheered his buddy to a most successful day.  And, Chuck, judging from Mike’s smiles and comments, I think you’ve won  a new fly fishing convert!  Happy for you both! Thanks much, guys!  I truly enjoyed sharing the Muskegon and its bounty with you.  Hope we can do it again some day.
