February days like today are pretty tough to complain about. Sunny skies, light wind, and afternoon temperatures in the mid 30’s made for a perfect afternoon to swing flies on the river. The weather forecast looks pretty bleak for the next 7-14 days as Ol’...
Winter Steelhead Fly Fishing – February
A balmy 5 degrees at 9am. was the best temperature reading I could find before we headed out for some winter fly fishing today on the Muskegon River. I had certainly hoped it would be a warmer start, but these were the cards we were dealt for today’s charter fly fishing trip. Thankfully the steelhead didn’t seem to mind the chilly temperatures and it wasn’t long before Teresa posed her first Muskegon River steelhead. Issues of "Chumming" and over harvest of steelhead have been hot topics on our beloved river systems of the Pere Marquette, Manistee, and Muskegon River systems. Our chance is here to let our voices be heard and rid our beloved rivers of selfish practices! Be...
It's a tale of two different worlds right now on the Mo'. Good to excellent winter trout fishing is common place for RQ guide Jay Allen upstream, while the last two days for me has proven difficult with the two-handers for winter steel downstream.
