A Family Affair

John, wife Chris, sons Sam and Henry, and pooch Buster joined Captain Steve and me for a day of fly fishing for steelhead and salmon.  The salmon run has built significantly over the last couple of days to the point of offering fishing opportunities more akin to seasons past—finally! A nice push of early steelhead has also arrived (Whoopee!), and the fall splendor along the Muskegon River is in high gear.  Very, very nice!

Seventh grader Sam hooked and lost a teenager steelhead that went spectacularly airborne at least seven times and later brought salmon to hand. Mom Chris held her fire until Jon and Henry in my boat could witness her new-found prowess with the long rod as seen in the pic below.  Buster, the Collie, chaperoned and Henry with Dad John in my boat netted this 14 pounder.  Proud Dad John had his chances as well.  All in all, a perfect family outing on the amazing natural resource that is the Muskegon River.
