Great time on the Manistee today with Glenn and Betty. Not that I got off to a good start: first I forgot my net; then, I hit a deer on the way to the river; and then my winch decided to take the day off! Glenn and Betty were the perfect guests, though: as Glenn said, “We’ve learned to go with the flow.” And so they did. Neither had cast a fly rod before, let alone take a shot at Kings with the long rod. Because I had no anchor winch and lifting the 90 lb. anchor was with my spagetti arms, I had to choose our fishing locations carefully—shallow water with room for me to net while wading. The fish cooperated, though, and while our landing percentage was low, we enjoyed action throughout the day.

I was happy for Glenn and Betty since they are so generous with their time and resources. They have volunteered with World Wide Missions all over the US and Caribbean and have benefitted the Christian Reformed Conference Center in significant ways. They were the successful bidder on the float trip I made available to the CRCC annual auction so today was the culmination of their generosity.

For their good friend and fellow CRCC benefactor, Dick, I need to say that Glenn fought the 16 lb. king he is holding BRILLiantly! Thanks, Glenn and Betty. Hope our paths cross again.
