Fresh off a week at the cottage, I was fired up to get back on the river with fellow RiverQuest guide and best bud, Don Graham, so off we went. It proved a gorgeous day with a couple of eagles; an osprey, fish in talons; and a woodchuck that popped out of his riverfront den to check us out—all offsetting some challenging fly fishing. As has so often been the case this year, the water was seriously off color, resulting in our not touching a fish on top or below for the first couple of hours we cast. After lunch, though, the river cleared a bit, and the bite improved with both of us bringing multiple fish to hand. Here, Don does the honors with one of the smallies that chose to cooperate with him, only to gave his six weight a very serious workout. All in all, a wonderful day on the water.
