May 1=Spey rods & Muskegon River

Certainly felt like we skipped spring and went straight to summer today with temperatures hitting the mid 80’s this afternoon on the Muskegon River. Guest and friend Bill Smith joined me for some two-handed Spey fishing today. River conditions this morning were running high and stained, though considerabley better than days past. Despite the clarity, warmer water has energized the steelhead and the swing was productive right out of the gate. However by late morning the waters were on the rise and the further reduced clarity likely was key on shutting down the swung fly bite. Regardless, it was great to have a couple bends on the two-handers. Pictured is a fiesty male that was really bent on not being photographed.
