Mark is one happy guy!

Today, it was an uncle/nephew trip. Pat brought Mark, who traveled from Ann Arbor to try his hand at steelheading with a fly rod. Mark worked hard to get his casting down, and when he did he began to have some success, culminating with the buck he holds with his uncle Pat. The photo says it all: Mark was one happy guy,and Pat was thrilled for him, as was I. Whether it was the rain over the weekend or simply flat-out luck, the fish were plentiful and eager to take the fly. The guys hit double digits with hookups and landed 70 percent of the fish they hooked. In short, an excellent performance and fine fishing on a day when I had prepared the guys for some tough going. Just goes to show: you can’t tell what you are going to get on any given day on the river. As I said to fellow guide, Captain Don Graham, at the close of the day, “You just have to get on the water.” Best flies today were pale egg patterns, Steelhead Buggers, and a purple Crystal Flash Egg Sucking Leach. Super time for me, Pat and Mark! Hope we can do it again.
