Record-shattering heat will continue across Michigan this week.

That was the actual headline from the GR Press exactly one year ago today. The air temperature for the day was 79 and the water temp was 40. We had better tans than we do on July 4th during normal years and there were happy fish taking care of business.

Today the air temp was 29 degrees and the water temp was 34, we are more windblown than tan and the fish, like the rest of us, are cold and conserving as much energy as possible.

As Steve mentioned yesterday the continued cold weather is making things a little tough. Ron Rich who joined us the past couple days with the group from Orvis Carmel was, however, up to the challenge and was rewarded with his first ever Steelhead. Congrats Ron!

The fish are in the system we just need to warm things up a few degrees to get the fish to expend a bit of energy to chase a fly. In the mean time fish slowly and thoroughly through the spots that historically hold fish. If you put in the time you will be rewarded.
