Brothers’ Day

Put a couple of brothers in the boat, hook some steelhead, toss in a sucker and walleye—all under a bluebird sky with the sun’s rays melting the chill of the morning, and you have the makings of fine day astream, indeed.  Water temps are edging up, but the bite has been challenging to say the least.  Nonetheless, the guys got it done. With stone flies popping today, stone fly nymphs were the fly of choice.  Walleyes, too, in ever greater numbers are taking up residence along with steelhead.  The big push of chrome hasn’t hit the upper river yet, but any day we’re anticipating their arrival. Shown are Brent with his buck, his releasing it, and Devin with a walleye that actually had me briefly fooled into thinking it was a steelhead. Can’t remember that happening for a long time.  A tough fish with some real stamina; unusual to the say the least.

Barring some bizarre bump in river flow to flood levels, the next two weeks should be very interesting, indeed, on the MO.  Grab a rod, call a guide, experience this magnificent steelhead fishery.  Thanks to Devin and Brent for a most enjoyable day.
