Shelby!

Indian summer has been with us this weekend with high temperatures soaring to the upper 70’s. With the sunny skies and very dry conditions of the past couple weeks the river flow has fallen to a scary low level. We need rain badly–period! Despite the trickle of water, fishing has been quite good the last few days with a mixed bag of salmon and steelhead. The falling waters have the salmon in over-drive on the gravel; I hope this doesn’t shorten our already short salmon season on the Mo’.  Steelhead numbers are decent but the size of this fish are currently averaging 3-4lbs, making an 8wt seem a bit hefty.

Curtis Marsh and his daughter Shelby joined me for the last two days. Both were treated to some of the most fabulous fall colors along the river that you will ever see. Shelby was new to fly fishing but with very little coaching required she had line rolling from her 13′ 8wt spey rod in no time flat. Shelby is now well healed in the fly fishing fratunity–trout, salmon, and steelhead have all been checked off her list.
