With summer in full swing fishing around the state is going strong. I will be in Leland next week fishing in and around big blue for carp and smallies. Following the Holiday I will be headed to the “Soo” for my Atlantic salmon season. Water temps on the St. Mary’s range from about 50 degrees to 55 degrees on the warmest of days of late. Atlantic’s are showing up and have feed very well on the abundant smelt populations of the region- double digit fish weights seem like a good possibility again this year. Steelhead drop backs and some very early Kings are present feeding on small smelt and herring. Insect activity is just starting to roll as the North country follows are late arrival of summer. For those of you looking to a date in the “Soo” I personally have July 8, 10, 22&23 available but Captain Dave is more than willing to travel up for any dates that I can not service.

Summer steelhead fishing on both the Manistee and the St. Joe looks very promising with all of the rains we have been receiving of late. Look for the fish on the Manistee to present themselves in good numbers anytime now; Captain Don would love to see your smiling faces with some hot summer chrome.

Captain Fred is tuning his deer hair creations and ready for your big summer smallmouth needs. Both full day and half day trips are available on short notice.
