Just a glimpse

Joining me today was long-time guest Tim Hicswa and Al Aevey. We started out the morning chasing steelhead, Al and Tim both finding some quick success. As the sun angle rose we transitioned to streamers and the quest for trout. Tim was rewarded a glimpse of a brown trout of his career, as it rose from the dark haunts of a woody pool. This brown gave a quick swipe at the fly only to spook at the sight of the boat. Oh, the visions that keep you coming back for more….

Streamer fishing the past couple days has been variable in both technique and fly size. Smaller minnow type patterns are getting more looks than the “big uglies” that normally take center stage this time of year; low clear water is likely to blame. Keeping the fly slow and deep was key today as the trout were not quick to pounce. Small eradicate  strips in conjunction with a deep angle of approach brought all of our netted fish today.
