A sportman through and through

I’ve said it before:  father/son trips are the best!  Great time today with dad Kevin and son David.  Last spring, David missed his first steelhead photo-op, when the eight pound buck he landed in my boat slipped back into the drink before the camera clicked!  Needless to say, today we had to get at least one on film for him!  Though the fish ran small off the gravel, they and others the guys lost afforded us lots of hook-ups before the bright sun slowed the action.  Dad was the gracious host, busting off a couple of larger fish; after all, the day was David’s.  David cast and managed his line well, and as the photos show, he was one happy camper!  And not a whimper from him when I deliberately busted off the biggest steelie of the day that David fought due to an ill-placed hookset.  In short, a sportsman through and through.  Caddis and egg patterns were the order of the day in water that is clear but nicely stained—in other words, excellent steelheading conditions.  Thanks, guys, for a most enjoyable day.
